Indonesia Govt kicks off Cisumdawu toll-road project

The government kicked off the first phase of the Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) toll road on Thursday with an investment of Rp 1.02 trillion (US$106.08 million).

The first phase, which will connect Cileunyi and Rancakalong, is expected to be completed in 2014.

Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto launched the ground-breaking ceremony, accompanied by West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan, the ministry’s highway director general, Djoko Murjanto, and Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) head Ahmad Ghani Ghazali.

A China–Indonesia joint operation, which consists of the Shanghai Construction Group, Wijaya Karya and Waskita Karya, would construct whole sections of the toll road, he said.

The West Java provincial government plans to construct Kertajati International Airport in the next two to three years because the existing Husein Sastranegara International Airport in Bandung has been operating overcapacity.

This project is part of the 40-kilometer Medan–Kuala Namu–Tebing Tinggi project that will connect the province’s capital city
not only to the new airport, but also to the palm oil center of Tebing Tinggi.

The projects include the Mojokerto and Kertosono first section, the Surabaya and Mojokerto fourth section, the Bawean and Ungaran section and the Tanjung Benoa-Ngurah Rai and Nusa Dua section.

According to the ministry, the land acquisition process in all of the four sections had reached around 70 to 80 percent.
